Our Team

The team at the Bethlehem Area Public Library BOOK SALE consists of  dedicated volunteers. They work very hard sorting through donations and arranging them so that you can find exactly what you want.  Although the book sales are set up in bookstore-fashion, you will come across treasures that you will not find in commercial bookstores.

Book Sale Facilitator


Laurel may be a familiar face to many of you already. She worked in the Circulation Department for eight years before assuming the position of Book Sale Manager and Volunteer Coordinator.

Alverta Serfass

Volunteer Extraordinaire!


32 years experience


Alverta's family helped with the move of the Main Library materials via a human chain from Market Street to its current location on Church St. Alverta continued to help after the move, assisting the staff and eventually  managing the library's volunteers.


She turned her energy to the book sales from 1977 until a month before she passed in early 2014. Alverta devoted an average of three days a week (about 60 hours per month) to the book sales. She had an amazing talent for promotion and an eye for creative display. Alverta was the go-to person for all the book sale volunteers. We miss her and think of her fondly.
